MAGNETIC PARTICLE TESTING
PCN Level 3 Magnetic Particle Inspection
Duration: 4 days (28 Hours) min duration
Course Overview:
The coursed is designed to provide guidance for preparing MT LEVEL 3 examination as per PCN requirements for Pre and in-service inspection sector. The aim of this course is to ensure candidates understood the scope of the examination, theory concepts and procedure requirements as per CP 25. On arrival, Mock test on the method is conducted and gap analysis report is prepared based on the outcome of mock test. This will also enable candidates to identify their weak subject areas. Training duration is decided based on the weak areas and candidate requirement.
Course Content:
- Basics of NDT, classifications of NDT
- History and Principles of magnetism, Classification of materials,
- Electromagnetic induction, Magnetic Parameters, properties (Permeability and reluctance and many more)
- Currents, Methods of Magnetization and field distribution
- Demagnetization, techniques & field measurements, devices
- Medium, properties and classification
- Equipment’s, accessories, and its applications
- Quality control check
- Inspection Techniques- Methods -Applications- -Magnetic field requirement (as per BS EN-9934-1)
- Special techniques
- Indication interpretation & recording techniques
- Product technology- welding, casting, forging, wrought and its associate defects
- Daily assessment and EOC assessments
Course objectives:
- Understand the basic principles of magnetic particle inspection
- Understanding Electromagnetic induction, Magnetic Parameters, properties
- Understanding the methods of magnetization, technique selections, chemicals, equipment’s
- understanding calibrations, inspections, technique selection, planning
- Duties and Responsibilities of a certified MT Level 3
- Demonstrating the ability and competence to evaluate, interpret results in terms of standards, codes, specifications
- Understanding the various product forms and its inspection methodology with MT
- Selection of parameters, techniques and its implementation as per the equipment
- calibration and validation process
- Carry out Magnetic Particle Inspection on welds, casting, wrought using a range of magnetizing methods if candidate do no hold Level 2 in multi sector
- Guidelines for procedure using the codes, Establishing the procedure, acceptance criteria when not available and guidance to all levels
- Meet the syllabus requirements for PCN Level 3 as per PCN24/ GEN Appendix Z1 and & PCN24/GEN/APP/MT & PCN24/AQB/REQ/MT
Experience:
- Higher education*, with Level 2 -180 days
- With Level 2 - 240 days
- Direct access, with higher education* - 360 days
- PCN MT Level 2 (multisector) or any BINDT recognised MT Level 2 qualification is mandatory to be eligible for MT Level 3 exam.

PCN Level 2 Magnetic Particle Inspection
Duration: 5 days (35 Hours) min duration
Course Overview:
This course provides comprehensive knowledge of the theory and practice of magnetic particle testing for candidates to reach the Level 2 standard. You will learn to explain the basic principles of magnetic particle inspection methods, to carry out magnetic particle inspection & to write clear and concise inspection instructions and test reports.
Course Content:
- Basics of NDT, classifications of NDT
- History and Principles of magnetism, Classification of materials,
- Electromagnetic induction, Magnetic Parameters, properties (Permeability and reluctance and many more)
- Currents, Methods of Magnetization and field distribution
- Demagnetization, techniques & field measurements, devices
- Medium, properties and classification
- Equipment’s, accessories, and its applications
- Quality control check
- Inspection Techniques- Methods -Applications- -Magnetic field requirement (as per BS EN-9934-1)
- Special techniques
- Indication interpretation & recording techniques
- Product technology- welding, casting, forging, wrought and its associate defects
- Inspection & reporting of welds, casting, forgings using various magnetisation techniques using visible, fluorescent particles of various types of products
- Practical exercise and Daily assessment
Course objectives:

Experience:
- With level 1- 45 days, Direct access- 60 days
- Note: . One-day duration is at least seven hours, which can be achieved on a single day or by accumulating hours. The maximum allowable hours in any one day is 12 hours. Experience in days is achieved by dividing the total accumulated hours by 7.

PCN Level 1 Magnetic Particle Inspection
Duration: 3 days (21 Hours) min duration
Course Overview:
This course provides comprehensive knowledge of the theory and practice of magnetic particle testing for candidates to reach the Level 1 standard. You will learn to explain the basic principles of magnetic particle inspection methods, to carry out magnetic particle inspection & to write clear and concise inspection instructions and test reports.
Course Content:
- Basics of NDT, classifications of NDT
- History and Principles of magnetism, Magnetic properties of materials, Presentation of the MPI, Applicability and limits
- Electric& magnetic circuits, typical values, units, Magnetic field created by electric circuits
- Magnetic flux of a magnetic discontinuity, Influence of depth and orientation of a magnetic discontinuity on its detection
- Nonmagnetic materials, Magnetic materials. Curie point.
- Magnetization, detection media and test of detection media indication.
- Magnetizing equipment, Viewing condition, Measurement and calibration, Demagnetization
- Product technology- welding, casting, forging, wrought and its associate defects
- Application of a written instruction
- Practical exercise and Daily assessment
